Q:
Do your fires carry
guarantees?
A:
Yes, all of our fires carry manufacturers' guarantees.
Some manufacturers give a standard 12 months guarantee
and others even longer!
Q:
How much
does a gas/electric fire/stove cost to run?
A:
Gas and electricity use is measured in ‘Kilowatts
Per Hour’ (kWh). Multiply the consumption of energy
(heat inputs) on your bill by the cost of ‘kWh’. The
cost of each ‘kWh’ should be clearly shown on your utility
bill.
Q:
How do I know if the fire I want to buy is going
to be hot enough for me?
A:
Firstly, all people feel heat differently; some
people do not like to be hot and stuffy whereas some
people feel the cold and therefore like to be much warmer.
As a general/rough guide you can use the following formula
to see what type of heat output you may require from
a fire measured in Kilowatts. Measure the room in which
the fire is going to be sited - working in metres measure
the height x depth x width and divide this by 14. This
should give you an approximate heating requirement for
that room in ‘Kilowatts’. This formula should be used
as a guide only, as many factors can affect the heating
requirement of a room, eg whether there iscentral heating
in the room, how many windows there are, whether the
room is insulated etc. We and manufacturers strongly
advise not to rely on a gas or electric fire for the
main source of heat in a room; it should be used as
a supplementary form of heat.
Q:
Do you
only deal with the companies that are shown on your
website?
A:
No! Our website is constantly being updated and
we are constantly increasing the amount of products
we sell. If there is a particular model of fire you
may be interested in that is not shown on our website
then please call us and we will do our utmost to see
if we can obtain it for you!
Q:
I have
heard that inset gas fires are exspensive to run and
all of the heat escapes up the chimney - is this true?
A:
Not necessarily! Years ago when they first became
available it was the case, but over the years technology
has improved so much, that you can now buy an inset
fire with an efficiency rating of 89% and heat output
of over 4KW! It is still the case however that some
inset fires do have low heat outputs and low efficiency.
As always, we recommend that a home survey be carried
out prior to choosing a gas fire and that the heat output
and efficiency of the fire is checked before purchasing.
Q:
How can I find out the efficiency of a gas fire?
A:
It is very easy to work out the efficiency of a
gas fire: simply divide the fire's maximum Heat Output
by the fire's maximum Heat Input.
Q:
I have a Baxi back boiler - can I buy
a new fire to connect to it?
A:
Baxi back boiler systems can only work in conjunction
with a compatible Baxi ‘Firefront’. Depending on the
age of the system you may be able to have a new fire
but you must first find out what model of boiler you
have. On each back boiler system there is a manufacturer's
data plaque or sticker. This is usually located on the
firefront behind the dropdown control cover. On this
plaque/sticker is all of the information pertaining
to your boiler system, model number and serial number.
Once you have the model and serial numbers, then you
can simply contact us or even BAXI direct and from there
you will be able to find out whether a replacement fire
is available.
Q:
What does “Living Flame Fire” mean?
A:
This is the name given to a gas fire that produces
a flame which looks like a real flame produced by a
coal or other solid fuel fire but using gas as its energy
source.
Q:
Do “Living
Flame Fires” produce soot and ash like solid fuel fires?
A:
“Living Flame” gas fires do not produce ash like
solid fuel fires as gas is generally a clean burning
fuel. However, they do produce some levels of soot which
is formed during the combustion process. The cause of
this is that the flame is impeded by the fuel effect
i.e Coal, Pebble, Driftwood effects. This soot should
be periodically removed by cleaning out the fire as
recommended and shown in the manufacturer's instruction
manual supplied with the fire - bear in mind that sooty
deposits become more noticeable on lighter coloured
fuel effects such as Pebbles and Driftwood. This should
be considered before making a purchase.

on Ebay.
